Pastor Taylor Shippy - Luke 11:1-13

More than any of the other Gospels, Luke is captivated by the prayer life of Jesus. It was not a trivial detail to Luke that Jesus, even as God the Son, frequently prayed to God the Father. And Luke’s not the only one fascinated by this. The disciples were too.“Lord, teach us to pray…” (Lk 11:1). It’s not to say that the disciples do not know how to pray; rather, they were impressed with the example of Jesus’ prayer life. And they want to pray like He prayed.

And a part of teaching His disciples to pray like He prayed, Jesus revealed the character of the One they were praying to: The Father whose name we hallow as holy. The One whose will we are content may be done on earth as it is in heaven. The One we can ask for daily bread from. Through a brief little parable Jesus reveals who is the One we are praying to... Someone who is more than a friend and more like a Father.
