I’m gonna lay ‘my cards on the table’ and suggest that the point of Jesus’ story is not to give us indicators of who are wheat and who are weeds, who are good fish and who are bad fish. I think we’re simply told how things are going to be until we know for sure who’s in and who’s out. This is the tension of the parable. The mystery of the parable. That the wheat and weeds are to cohabit this field we call the world until harvest time. That good fish and bad fish will swim in the same currents of this world until that day comes… How do we live like wheat among weeds without necessarily becoming weeds but also without pulling them? That’s the question I think Jesus is asking us this morning…
