Pastor Taylor Shippy - Ephesians 1:15-23

This morning is Christ the King Sunday, the last Sunday of the liturgical church year which celebrates Christ's messianic kingship and sovereign rule over all creation. A time each year where we pause and specifically remember the stories and testimonies of the power of our God, the same God that is ruling and reigning in this world today, But Christ the King Sunday… as it so often does… runs up against the rocky shores of reality. Instead of celebrating Christ the King Sunday waving palm branches like on Palm Sunday, we more than likely find ourselves this morning like the destitute father on Transfiguration Sunday, crying out to King Jesus: “I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mk 9:24). Or maybe we’re somewhere in-between. For those of you listening with shrunken or shriveling theologies, wondering whether or not Christ is still on the throne, can I offer you this prayer that the Apostle Paul prayed over the Ephesians?
