Pastor Taylor Shippy - 1 John 2:24-25; 5:11-13

If you’ve been around Church long enough, I’m sure you’ve heard of ‘eternal life’ before. In my opinion, many believe ‘eternal life’ is a gift we know we have, but we’ve come to believe that we can’t access or possess it… at least… not right now. We’re told about. Given clues and hints about. But we’ve accepted we can never fully enjoy it in this life. Instead we have to wait to take possession of it sometime in the future after we die ‘in the life to come.’ Only then can we fully realize it. But what if ‘eternal life’ isn’t something we need to wait for; rather, it’s something we can lay claim to right now… That we don’t have to wait until post-mortem; we can taste it in the here and now. That ‘eternal life’ isn’t something we wait to receive in the future; rather, it’s something we’re given in the present to start living into and enjoying… That in a way... We are meant to live the future in the present!
