Ruth possessed something that kept her from giving up. From ‘throwing in the towel.’ From taking the easy, wide, even safer path of staying in Moab, with Moab’s gods, but instead she opted for the harder, narrower, and riskier path in Israel, with Israel’s God, and she became a part of something bigger and better that she could have ever hoped for! This thing that Ruth possessed moved her. It motivated her. It activated her. Guided her decisions and choices. It propelled her. It helped her not to deny or numb the reality of pain she was in; rather, it helped her to get up each morning to face the day as it was. And I wonder if what she possessed we can also possess as well… This dynamic dimension to what we call hope…
