Pastor Taylor Shippy - 1 Samuel 3:1-18

Most retellings of Samuel’s midnight wake-up call often don't finish the story. Almost no one remembers that God had a message that night—though surprisingly not for Samuel.

More often than not, we tend to fixate on the circumstances surrounding how God spoke to Samuel. But almost no one remembers what God actually said that night, let alone who God was trying to communicate with, much less why God wanted to say it!

Now don’t get me wrong, the way God spoke to Samuel is absolutely worth reflecting on... But I worry if we only focus on that we may potentially be missing other things God wants us to hear.

What if this story isn’t simply a cute story about God waking up a kid in the middle of the night?

Though it certainly is!

What if this story also sheds light on the kinds of things God tends to say and why? And what if we’re the ones in need of a wake-up call?
