That a dimension of revisiting Jesus’ memorable baptism isn’t simply to recall a historical moment in Jesus’ life but to see echoes, reflections, if not ourselves in the story with Jesus… That when we “join with Christ Jesus in baptism” (Rom 6:3) we ought to hear the words spoken by the Father as if they were spoken to us, ‘You are my dearly beloved child, in whom I am well pleased.’
