Pastor Taylor Shippy - Psalm 115:1-3; Daniel 7; Acts 1:4-11
Our earliest Christian ancestors did not see the Ascension as an anticlimactic, lackluster finale to the gospel or an awkward, clumsy send-off of Jesus after Easter; rather, they saw the Ascension as the continuation of what God was doing through the sending of Jesus in the first place! They saw the Ascension as the inauguration and coronation of the long-awaited King, who had defeated death and the dark forces through His own death and resurrection, and now is returning triumphantly to reign on a throne at the Father's right hand. Imagine if we recaptured that message of hope and confidence, today? How would that influence how we think about where Jesus and what Jesus is presently doing right now for us?
