Benjamin Bergen is a Professor of Cognitive Science at UC San Diego, where he directs the Language and Cognition Lab. He studies language and cognition in the laboratory and in the wild. He’s also the author of two books. Louder than Words (2012) is an introduction to the cognitive science of how we manage to extract meaning from the language around us. More recently, What the F (2016) is an examination of how and why we swear, and what profanity reveals about our minds, our brains, and ourselves.
