In this episode, we feature the bitter struggles of STEM* workers in the Philippines and their initiative to collectively address their situation through the newly formed Alliance of STEM Graduate Students and Workers (STEM Alliance). Justin Custado, a chemist from Marine Science Institute, and TJ Cipriano, a geographer formerly from the UP Resilience Institute, talk about their work and the problems Filipino STEM workers face in relation to their salary, benefits, and general welfare. The two junior scientists from UP Diliman discuss the need and struggle to form the STEM Workers Alliance with other contractual STEM workers.
*STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
