Matthew Burke speaks to Chris Wheeler, Principal of Monkton School in Bath. Matthew and Chris talk about the public examination system in the UK and the current conversation around GCSEs and what could be done to make the assessment system better. They discuss alternative ways in which skills could be assessed, whilst still ensuring that all students are equipped with the knowledge they need to be successful and move on to the next steps in their journey. They also talk about Chris’s belief that Independent Schools have a role to play as crucibles of innovation in the education sector, with the ability to pilot, test and try out new ways of doing things, before sharing best practice with others.
