Nearly every senior was applying to 3-8 top competitive colleges and Judy and I were tasked with increasing acceptance letters to top 100 colleges. The problem was each college required 2-5 essays, so the girls’ overwhelm became our overwhelm. I spent my days and nights reading and editing essays.
Judy and I realized that the school’s college success depended on the amount of guidance they received and the focused time the girls dedicated to each application.
Our offices were old dorm rooms, connected by a bathroom turned storage space. Judy and I often joked that some of our best ideas came from impromptu meetings in the “loo.”
This is the story of how essay camp was born and how we made 60 thousand dollars by working three weeks in the summer.
