In this episode, I hang out with Christina Coleman. Christina is a photographer, set designer, and lover of stop motion, claymation, and cars. The analytical meets creative, Christina is an organized hype person in her artistic endeavors. A person who loves the car, but hates the road. A 1969 Nissan Datsun 240z is her ideal. Smooth round headlights with hard edges, similar aesthetics are found in her photographs. Her photography could be described as a familiar, comfortable, dreamlike state mixing hard and soft surfaces, especially triangles. She loves film photography because it slows her down, making her consider every aspect carefully. Listen to find out what gear she uses. She describes how a lot of photographers keep their gear secret and don't discuss their photography rate openly. How information in the photography community can create a surge of traffic to random places or things deemed important. She describes hosting house shows to get to know people when she first moved here. Pre-covid house shows with people packed like sardines, the steam, the smoke alarms beeping, and the floors bouncing. Christina shares the importance of recognizing your version of what you do and pushing yourself to do a little bit more than you think you can. We talk about how genuine the people are in Nashville and how this community wants to see you succeed. She gives advice on working with major labels and indie labels. Things to remember, don't get all mad and bitter because someone else achieved their goal. Their success is not a reflection of your success or lack of success. Different timelines, different paths. Finally we talk about the joys of sitting in silence. Imagining things while sitting, creating in your mind's eye, listening to the small still voice within, quietly working through it. Noah Pope was the first episode of 2022. Christina Coleman is the first episode of 2023. Things really do come full circle. Enjoy!
