Description

In this episode, I hang out with Full Mood. It features Nick Morelly and Miranda McLaughlin. Full Mood is an Indie synth pop band.  Learn how they moved to Nashville sight unseen and connected to the community through the Basement's weekly Tuesday meet up called New Faces Night.

Nick is a guitarist, pianist, drummer, and mathematician. We talk about our favorite drum books such as Gary Chester’s New Breed and 4 way coordination. Nick describes how Neil Peart of Rush is his greatest influence as a drummer and nowadays J.D. Beck. He loves chess and the Rubik's cube. Some of his favorite artists are Marcel Duchamp, Rene Magritte, and author Albert Camus' book "The Stranger."  Miranda is a singer, pianist, and ruckus rouser. She describes her love of Britney Spears, Lana Del Rey, Robert Plant, and Christina Aguilera. She had "Hit Me Baby One More Time" on cassette and shares how that inspired her singing as a kid. They talk about the importance of having a shared vision and not being a people pleaser with your music. Also it's better to put yourself out there than to worry you aren't ready or good enough. Influences like Cocteau Twins, Lana Del Rey, Mitski, Angel Olson, Kate Bush, Janis Joplin, and Wives Blood.
