In this episode, I hang out with Julien Foster. Julien is a producer, graphic artist, DJ(Space Cadet), multi-instrumentalist, and transcriber of ancient music. He loves the natural as well as the electronic. Blending the natural with synth and ambient elements. Coming from a musical family, his father, Radney Foster, is a country music star. Julien created the Space Cadet Quintet with his father and his brother Jack. Space Cadet Quintet is an eclectic mixture of tropical lounge jazz, reminiscent of the 60's with modern production elements. He recommends artists study the music and art that influenced their favorite art. Finding out what inspired their creation. Developing a new appreciation for the art in the process. Julien spends at least an hour or two a day on creating. One of his favorite venues in Nashville is Betty’s bar and grill. A venue allowing the weirdest of the weird carry out their artistic expression. A close second is Vinyl Tap, an intimate bar where you can browse records while seeing live music. Influences like The Grateful Dead, Paul Simon, Massive Attack, Boards Of Canada, Aphex Twin, Tipper, DJ Qbert, Nirvana, and White Stripes. Book influences like Jerusalem by Alan Moore, Good Omens by Neil Gaiman, and other sci-fi and fantasy novels. Enjoy!
