In this episode, I hang out with Kelton Young. Kelton is a guitarist, singer, and recently stand-up comedian. It’s the smallness of life that he appreciates and tries to capture through his music. Not becoming cynical or lost in a mindless drivel of pessimism. He enjoys his internet tangents, finding simple things to be moved by. Like a baby's first words or a father returning home from war. One of his goals is to listen to every song, but in Dream Wave, he writes and performs dream pop. Dream Wave is steeped in slowcore, the artsy music scene reminiscent of the 2010-2014 era of Indie bands. Gentle, but emotional, his melodies and words come with a nostalgic feeling. Spontaneous and adventurous, Kelton will often travel the globe at the drop of a hat. Honest, intentional, and determined he creates a vibe that lets your guard down while taking you away. Guitar influences like Kurt Rosenwinkel, Bill Frisell, John Scofield, and Pat Metheny. Music influences like Stereolab, Gillian Welch, Karen Dalton, Stevie Wonder, and Vic Chestnut. He has played with bands like Soccer Mommy, Snail Mail, Carmen Canedo, and others. He encourages you to be around people who aren’t like you and also to find people who can support you. We talk about the artist's sacrifice to get the finances to create from the heart. Enjoy!
