Description

City University of New York has recently announced that it is discontinuing the last of its remedial math and English courses.  Many other institutions and systems have done or are in the process of doing the same.  The debate as to the value and effectiveness of remedial education has raged for decades.  Despite years of studies with the consistent message that remedial education is ineffective and in fact harmful to students, higher education has struggled to find an alternative.  In this episode I’ll look at co-requisite education as a viable alternative—not a new one, but one that shows promise for today’s students.
