A jungian nightmare of science fiction, alchemical personal transformation and esoteric imagery NGE is one of the least understood and under appreciated series not only within the anime community but within visual media as a whole. If looked at through the light lens it can put one the path to spiritual enlightenment but as a whole the anime community have shunned this series as it seems to directly take shots at its viewers and their philosophies regarding entertainment.
