First the rant then.....
This week I would like to tell you about another day trip I did as soundman for Monty
Lister on Radio Merseyside back in the day....this one took us to Italy where we visited
Pisa and Florence...there and back in a day.......sitting in Speke Airport in Liverpool at
6.30 in the morning and having a coffee looking at the leaning tower at 10
O'Clock......the leaning tower is a lot smaller than you expect....in fact you could walk
past it if you didn't know it was there....so round the town we went with Monty doing his
usual vocal descriptions and interviews with people then it was back on the coach and
off to Florence which is very compact and our tour took us around some of the many art
centres and museums....one of the roads reminded me of Mathew Street in Liverpool
and when you get to the end of it you are taken by surprise by the largest cathedral in
italy....about 30 yards in front of you....the magnificent Basilica....after the tour Monty and
I decided to find a restaurant and have an authentic Italian Pizza....however we couldn't
FIND a restaurant....when we eventually did find one we ordered a couple of pizzas
which tasted like cardboard....then we left and after about 30 yards we came to a main
road with about 50 restaurants.....say no more.....then it was back to the coach and got
back to Liverpool about 10.30 with another of Monty's travelogues in the bag.
