O.K.....it's time for my choice of one of the worst records ever....it is from the past and
is probably forgotten by most people but there are some songs which are so bad
they are difficult to get out of your mind...the culprit is country singer Roger Miller and
the song is called "England Swings" and is a description of England...or
London...through the eyes of an American who has obviously never been
here....fortunately the song is less that 2 minutes long.....it is one of those 8 inch 45
singles which should have had a 9 inch hole drilled in it.
The petrol crisis is still in full swing but we have been told things should be better
soon as the army will be brought in to solve the shortage of HGV drivers who deliver
the fuel....the responsibility for the panic buying lies purely with the media in my
opinion....in their frantic search for negative news they tell people NOT to "panic buy"
knowing full well the majority will do just that....I was approaching a local roundabout
in my car last week and pulled up behind a line of cars in front of me....thinking they
were waiting to go around the said roundabout as nothing was moving I realised I
was in a queue for petrol....the filling station being quarter of a mile away....so I had to
manoeuvre out of the queue saying "Blinking heck I am in the wrong flaming
queue....oh drat"....or words to that effect......and now the media can concentrate on
something else to frighten everyone.
What people don't seem to grasp is the fact that those who sell you cars or discuss
your bank account or offer you better deals on your insurance...etc....are NOT your
friends...and in most cases are a lot cleverer than you....they are in business whose
aim is to get money out of you....your "friendly" car dealer soon changes his tune
when you decide not to buy the car he is trying to sell you....I have seen many legal
scams over the years.....one being the receiving of a letter telling you you have WON
one of the following prizes....you are then given a list of prizes ranging from large
amounts of money to expensive cars or holidays....one of the prizes will require you
to pay something out....usually the free holiday which requires a chunk of money for
say insurance...which is refundable when you COMPLETE your holiday....this is
always the one you have "WON" so you pay your 70 quid or whatever thinking you
have won a dream holiday....despite the fact you have never entered any
competition....what they don't tell you is the holiday to Spain is by coach...from
Glasgow....so not wanting to travel for several days with a Scotsman and his mouth
organ in the next seat you aint gonna go...so it's goodbye 70 quid.
