On the music scene I watched a documentary on the Everly Brothers which was very
interesting....I wasn't particularly a fan but it's always good to see an inside
story....speaking of which there was another documentary on The Human League
who I WAS a fan of...I loved their stuff and what I really liked was the fact that Phil
Oakey's no singer and the girls backing him could neither sing or dance but the
group had a certain magic and the records were great.
I also watched Jeff Lynne's E.L.O. at Wembley.....anyone who missed this missed
out....concerts do not get any better....apart from great songs the backing band and
the singers were sensational....and Sting has brought out a new single which
reaches his usual high standards....he is a great lyricist as is shown in his "Every
Breath You Take"...great stuff.....this all makes a great escape route from the news.
I have always liked good female singers with pin point accuracy....for example Celine
Dion with her gentle delivery...Gladys Knight with her perfect phrasing....Aretha
Franklin with her sharp jagged delivery ....Dionne Warwick with her faultless voice
(Heartbreaker being one of my favourite songs)....and of course Tina Turner with her
fabulous range.....a lot can be learned by up and coming girl singers from the likes of
these legends....and at the opposite end of the scale I would like to introduce one of
the worst records ever made...only .in my opinion of course....Tell Laura I Love Her by
Ricky Valance....which reached number one back in the day....but to me it is one of
the worst records ever.
