The siege at Waco. or often referred to as the Waco Massacre, was a law enforcement siege of the religious sect Branch Davidians. It was carried out by the government and Texas state law enforcement agencies between February 28 and April 19, 1993. Government officials suspected the Branch Davidians of stockpiling illegal weapons.
The incident began when the ATF attempted to serve search and arrest warrants at the compound. A gunfight broke out resulting in the deaths of four government agents and six Branch Davidians. After the failure to execute the warrants, a siege was initiated by the FBI. This siege lasted 51 days before an assault was launched using tear gas. The compound soon became engulfed in flames resulting in the deaths of 76 Branch Davidians. These deaths included 25 children, 2 pregnant women, and the group's religious leader, David Koresh.
