Description

On Slice 32 I fly from the state of Tennessee to the southeast Asian wonder that is Thailand. And of course, who else would I meet but two former county players for Offaly and Westmeath! Niall and David (“Dude”) bring me through the craic in Thailand GAA and beyond. We chat making CVs in Internet Cafes, teaching in Templogue, the conversation between the 2 lads before Dude came to Thailand, Offaly GAA growing and the parody account on Twitter, dual coding in tournaments in the heat, foreigners from Leitrim, hosting the Asian Games and the impact of South Africa Gaels, fielding an all-Thai team, back-to-back Asian Games success, Boidu Sayeh’s first game with Rosemount, doubling up tournaments in Malaysia with stag parties, the importance of John Campbell to Thailand GAA, Dude and the infamous jaw-breaking incident against Armagh, a pub named Father Ted, and the key questions like what is the Thailand GAA iconic karaoke song, a good temple or a good mass and the Giant Golden Buddha Statue or the great Alan “Buddha” Mangan for Westmeath? And will we see a Phuket GAA in the near future?
