Pastor Mike Weaver preaches on the call of Levi in 5:27-39, exploring the implications of this transformative call of Jesus, for our lives.
The story of Levi, a despised tax collector, reminds us that Christ's invitation to 'follow me' is extended to all, regardless of our past lives or societal status. Jesus' radical inclusion is a challenge to preconceptions and calls the follower to embrace a new way of living. Jesus uses the metaphors of new garments and new wine to emphasise that our old ways of living can't simply be patched with Christ's teachings - the call is to be wholly transformed. As you listen consider: Am I truly ready to leave my old ways behind and follow Jesus? How can I open my heart to those I might consider 'unworthy,' just as Jesus welcomed tax collectors and sinners to his table? Know that you can do both these things by embracing the revolutionary love and acceptance that Christ offers to all.
