Oscar Wilde once said ‘I can resist everything except temptation.’ The nature of temptation is such that while we may have strong willpower, temptation is often too alluring to resist. Jesus faced a series of tests specific for him from the devil at the start of his ministry, and how he dealt with it is a life and faith lesson for us all to follow. Strong will power is never enough to overcome as we pray in the Lord’s Prayer ‘And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ To resist we need to pray, stand firm in our faith and carry God’s word in our hearts.
