We are back for episode three with the Burgess Blue Ocean team and today we are going to be talking about the impact that anchoring has on our ocean seabeds, specifically the effect it can have on the incredible organism that is seagrass!
Seagrass evolved around 100 million years ago and can form dense underwater meadows, some of which are large enough to see from space. Although they receive little attention, they are the most productive ecosystems in the world. Whether we are aware of it or not, every time we drop anchor we are affecting these fragile marine habitats. So this episode is all about raising awareness and looking at what we can do to help.
We are joined by ex crew member Alex Guy and Michela Betti from the Burgess Blue Oceans programme.
New episodes from this series will be posted at the end of each month ⏰
