It's imperative that we redefine what it means to provide.
And it's imperative that this be informed by what we know about childrens' development and also what is required for our partners to be nourished and thriving.
It will be unique set up for every family and I don't believe in being prescriptive with this stuff. Trust your gut.
Obviously providing in terms of finances is important (how cool that this can be a team sport these days), but to only focus on this is a bit one dimensional.
What are we providing in terms of our ability to create safety and relaxation in the home? What are we providing in terms of the healthy physical, mental and emotional development of our children?
What are we providing in terms rituals and tradition?
The answer to these questions will determine the legacy we are leaving.
