Come on interdisciplinary! The Dr. thOTs duo are excited to invite everybody's favorite "long time listener, first time caller" to the podcast. Dr. Suzanne Huot is an internationally known Canadian occupational scientist and geographer whose research focuses on immigration, space generation, and linguistic inclusion. However, she is also a unicorn of an occupational scientist because she is not an occupational therapist! In this episode Ryan and Khalilah discuss Dr. Huot's experience as a scientist but not a therapist - but still teaching occupational therapists and researching through a lens of occupation. They unpack how occupation caught Dr. Huot's eye as a geographer and how it has developed within her research with francophone Canadians and immigrants. The three dive into the politics of belonging, Canadian vs US occupational practice, accents, and the benefits and challenges of not being an OT in OS. Highlights include: Dr. Huot recommends a business leadership podcast, Khalilah thinks about learning ASL, and Ryan excludes some bus buddies.
