Freedom from trying to be slightly better
Being marginally ahead in a wild goose chase
Of ferocious battles for really small stakes
Of killing each other for a piece of cake
I wish you freedom
From blending in with the insane crowd
Being trampled in the stampede of morons
Of everyone rushing into a packed train
Desperate to be a pawn in the game
I wish you freedom
From anxieties of tiny defeats, disgrace
The pride of being a perfect rat in the race
A life spent ticking someone’s checklist
Of being owned by goods we can’t resist
I wish you freedom
From trying to be a squirrel forced to fly
From a fancy job, lofty pedestal in the sky
Of everyone outside wanting to get in
Of everyone inside wanting to get out
I wish you wisdom
To shun your clothes, dance nude again
Of finding your own, uncluttered lane
To find what’s valuable, important to you
To sing your song, a beat that rings true
