Description

Wait - they have a fire department in Antarctica?! What's it like? How's the weather? How many people are there? What does your day look like? Is firefighting the same in that climate? Do you use different equipment? What about hydrants? How do you even get the opportunity to go down there??  Yep - those were all of my questions, and more.

My friend, Justin Ferris, joins me on the podcast this week to talk all about his year-long contract to Antarctica back in 2003.  What do you think of when you think of Antarctica? I think of the planet Hoth from Star Wars, polar bears & penguins, being a frozen block 24/7, and a single building in the middle of nowhere.  Well, I was a little right AND I was very wrong!

We end the episode with another segment of "Family Firefighter Survival".  Each guest episode, we will dig into how the job works & intertwines with family life, what they have learned along the way, and how they make the best of it with their family today.

As always, I don’t claim to be an expert, I just love to talk fire and I’m not afraid to get into real & deep discussions.  Everything I say is my own opinion and does not reflect the opinions of any agency or organization I am associated with.
