Latest Uvalde developments: Governor Greg Abbott has ordered the Texas House and Senate to convene special legislative committees to address school and gun safety in the wake of last week’s school shooting in Uvalde, but stopping short of calling for a full special session of the Legislature. Texas State Senator Roland Gutierrez, whose jurisdiction includes Uvalde, has accused Governor Abbott of attempting to "bamboozle" grieving locals with empty promises of legislative action. Five people remained hospitalized with injuries suffered in the shooting as of Wednesday, including a 10 year old girl who remains in serious condition. The Girl Scouts have posthumously honored shooting victim Amerie Jo Garza with its Bronze Cross, which is granted to members who display life-threatening heroism.
