Uvalde: funerals begin for the 21 victims of last week's mass shooting. Visiting mourning families over the weekend, President Joe Biden was urged by members of a Uvalde crowd to "do something" - the U.S. Justice Department will conduct an investigation into law enforcement's response. Pete Arredondo, the school police chief being charged with stopping police officers from intervening quickly, will not be publicly sworn in to the Uvalde City Council - he won election to a seat last month. Almost $3 million has been raised for the surviving children of slain teacher Irma Garcia and her husband Joe, who has died of a heart attack since the shooting. Harry Styles announces a partnership in honor of the Uvalde victims with the non-profit Everytown For Gun Safety, and Matthew McConaughey - who spent his early childhood in Uvalde - paid his respects this weekend as well. Governor Greg Abbott has made incorrect statements about the Sutherland Springs shooting, asserting that background checks would not have stopped that shooter from arming himself (they would have).
