Illinois jumped out to a 14-11 lead at the first media timeout of the game, but the Terrapins went on a 17-2 run from there to lead by 12. The teams traded runs from there until Illinois finally climbed back to tie the game at 62 at the final media timeout. But Maryland was able to stave off the final Illini push and hold on for the win.
It doesn’t get any easier for Illinois (6-2, 0-1) as they now travel to New York City to take on #2 Texas in the Jimmy V Classic on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden. That’s a 7:00 ET/6:00 CT start on ESPN.
