Illinois center Kofi Cockburn has made his decision. The big man is calling an end to his college career and headed to the pros. Cockburn officially announced he is entering his name in the NBA Draft for the third time, meaning he cannot withdraw his name and his time at Illinois is complete. Craig Choate and Logan Lee react to the news in an Illini Special episode of the season from No One Asked Us.
Cockburn scored 1,546 points in his Illinois career. His 17.2 points per game for his career are the 9th best all-time at Illinois, while his 20.9 average in 2022 is the 10th best single season average of all-time. He also pulled down 861 rebounds in his career, that puts him in 3rd all-time for career rebounds at Illinois. His 45 career double-double are the most for any Illini.
While at Illinois, Cockburn went 44-16 in the Big Ten. The most amazing stat of his three year career is the fact that Kofi never lost to Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Penn State, Nebraska, and Northwestern. Ever. He went 28-0 against those six Big Ten opponents.
Kofi Cockburn will go down as the best center in Illinois basketball history.
Other Illini basketball notes include Brandin Podziemski entering his name in the transfer portal, Andre Curbelo announcing his commitment to St. John’s after transferring from Illinois, and ZZ Clark (younger brother of Skyy Clark) committing to Illinois in the Class of 2024.
