Description

Amongst the vast pantheon of Black political activists, organisers, agitators, philosophers, thinkers, and leaders, some view Marcus Garvey as the strongest voice that there has ever been for Black nationalism. He is considered one of the fathers of Pan-African political thought, advocating Black economic nationalism and more controversially, repatriation to Africa.

On this segment we talk about the Jamaica-born Pan-African icon who inspired people of Black African descent globally, at a time when Africa was being colonized, slavery in the Atlantic World had not long been abolished for as many as 100 years, and racialized class oppression was the reality of African peoples throughout the Americas. This episode marked Garvey's birth 137 years ago in August 1887. We asked our panel, what is it that Marcus Garvey worked towards during his life, and what is his legacy?
