Description

Whilst our topical skincare products absorb into and target the epidermis, there are certain ingredients and treatment approaches that either directly or indirectly influence our dermis, with the ultimate goal being to stimulate the mighty fibroblast cells to produce new collagen, elastin and glycoaminoglycans. These key proteins and polysaccharides form the extra cellular matrix, key to skin strength, density and overall function.

On this episode of The Power of Protons we're touring the Dermis, with our first stop being the basement membrane or dermal-epidermal junction that links our two zones of skin. We'll then highlight the two key regions of the dermis, prominent cell types and the overall role of this deep zone of skin.

In a field where the holy grail of age management procedures rely on targeting and/or influencing the dermis and activating the wound healing cascade, there has never been a better time to revisit this region of skin and explore the cells in which we seek to stimulate to tighten, firm and resurface with new epithelial tissue.
