Exodus 22:21-27If Israel begins to oppress the vulnerable members of its society, it will face the same destiny as the Egyptians. God's hearing is not sentimental empathy. God's compassion is not divine indulgence. Rather, it has social ramifications. It restructures hierarchies. It defeats exploitation. The poor are not dependent on the largess of the wealthy.
As we attempted to continue our sermon series, this matter of God being intolerant of false worship (and our call to be so as well) is actually a revelation of the love of God. In other words, God’s extreme law is due to His extreme love. And if we will be winsome to win some then we must have such love in our hearts.
God commands this of His new covenant people and in Exodus 22:21-27, He commanded this of His old covenant children as well. Learn more about this year sermon series, The Book of Exodus at siblife.my/exodus
