Autoimmune diseases, which include rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and  inflammatory bowel disease - result from your immune system attacking  your body instead of foreign invaders like bacteria or viruses.

Marlene Marte Furment, MD, an internal medicine resident at Saint  Peter's University Hospital, will present a lecture on why autoimmune  diseases happen. Dr. Furment will explain the common autoimmune  diseases, their symptoms, and treatment options.
