Description

Luciana Buriol is an Associate Professor in the Institute of Informatics at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil, since 2006. Her background is in optimization and algorithms. She finished her undergrad studies in Computer Science in 1998 by the Federal University of Santa Maria, and Msc (2000) and Ph.D. (2003) in Optimization by the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), São Paulo, Brazil. In 2001-2002 she spent 15 months working as a visiting scholar at AT&T Labs Research, NJ, USA. In 2004-2005 she spent 18 months as a Post-doc in the Algorithm group of the University of Rome La Sapienza, Italy.  Luciana has been serving as a reviewer for several journals, and as associate editor for International Transactions in Operational Research - ITOR, Networks and Journal of Combinatorial Optimization and Pesquisa Operacional (BR). She was awarded Fellow of the National Council of Technological and Scientific Development (CNPq/Brazil), and has served as President of ALIO (Asociación Latino-Iberoamericana de Investigación Operativa) in the term 2012-2014, and Vice-President of IFORS (International Federation of Operational Research Societies) in the term 2016-2018. In the term Jan.2019-Jan.2021 she was the coordinator of the Post-Graduation Program in Computer Science from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul.  Her more recent projects (4 years) are in pickup and delivery vehicle routing problem (in collaboration with www.umov.me), the phisician rostering problem (application to the Hospital de Clinicas de Porto Alegre) and the logistics of the home health care problem (to be applied to the case of Porto Alegre).
