Paul addresses the church with a standard greeting, but this is far from a standard letter. This is the follow-up to a personal conversation that he had with all the leaders of the congregation (Acts 20).
- This is one of for "prison epistles" written by Paul while he is in Roman confinement
- This letter is focused on relationships: Chapters 1-3 - Our relationship with God; Chapters 4-6 - Our relationship with brethren, families, and the world
- The main theme is from 3:16-19 "That you may know the width, length, height, and depth of the love of Christ... and be filled with the fullness of God"
