Description

I first walked a section of the Camino de Santiago in 2006, and it taught me one big lesson—one I’ve carried with me ever since.

At the time, I was in a tough place—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. By the third day of walking, I got horribly lost after missing a way marker. I ended up hiking much farther than I planned. By the time I stopped, I had blistered feet, a painful injury, and a backpack that was literally falling apart.

I was hurting. I was angry—at myself, at life, at everything. I seriously considered quitting and catching the next flight home.
