TODAY I have with me Mary Potter Kenyon who suffered 3 great losses in just 3 years, mined her pain and turned her grief into an outlet for creativity and helping others. Intuitively she turned to her writing to process her pain at first. But then, Mary began studying the science of grief. She believed that because we all experience loss, we must be built to withstand it. Mary was right, and is now a Certified Grief Educator, Therapeutic Art Coach, author of seven books, public speaker, and founder of an annual grief retreat.
Bio: Mary Potter Kenyon graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and is a Therapeutic Art Coach and Certified Grief Educator trained under world-renowned grief expert, David Kessler. Mary is an author widely published in newspapers, magazines, and anthologies. Her seven books include the award-winning “Refined By Fire: A Journey of Grief and Grace” and “Called to Be Creative: A Guide to Reigniting Your Creativity.” Her children’s book on grief will be released in April 2024. Mary has been doing public speaking and conducting workshops for spirituality centers, community colleges, women’s groups, churches, and libraries since 2011. She founded a grief retreat and writers conference in Dubuque, Iowa, where she lives with her husband Nick Portzen.
