Morecambe's Winter Gardens is one of those structures that oozes atmosphere.
It's a beautiful building which once played host to the likes of George Formby, Gracie Fields, Vera Lynn, the Who and the Rolling Stones. Working hard to raise the money needed to prevent the ravages of time taking hold are a small dedicated band of volunteers. This week they had some good news - the building was awarded a grant by Historic England bringing the amount raised this year to almost £1million .
The Winter Gardens is open this weekend before closing from mid-December to complete a three month programme of restoration work in preparation for Easter 2022 and the 125th anniversary of the theatre.
I was lucky to be shown around the building on Saturday to hear how work is progressing.
