Does Morecambe Bay have anything in common with the Amazon?
Throughout November events are taking place across north Lancashire to highlight the region which is close to home for some.
Sian Phillips, well known in musical circles around the Bay, lost her brother Dom earlier this year when the journalist was one of two men murdered while researching the deforestation of the Amazon.
After a grim search up and down the winding Itaquaí river of the Javari Valley, Brazilian police confirmed in June that Dom and Bruno Pereira, one of the country's best known and effective defenders of the forest and its inhabitants, had been killed.
Now, Lancaster University researchers, musicians, artists and other supporters are staging a month-long series of events including an international conference to highlight the Amazon and the two men who were killed. Called 'For Dom, Bruno and the Amazon' it was launched at Halton Mill.
