Buckle up listeners as Heyd and Erin discuss the both loved AND hated psychedelically nauseating film Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas with Houston-based artist Patrick Turk. The dizzying aesthetics of the film relates directly to the sculptural collages made by Patrick with trippy repetition and radial designs while using anachronistic imagery sourced from science-fiction novels, encyclopedias, history, and scientific diagrams that seem to morph both time and space. With every drug induced stupor, we explore themes related to patriotism and moral panics that melt our perceptions of reality and make us question if we should continue to hump the American Dream.
Tangents include: D.A.R.E., Half-Priced Books, art school (again!), GOOP, Liberace, 14th wax medical models, Heyd and Erin’s Colorado “trip”
