We continue our study of the return of Jesus Christ. This is the event we long for, pray for, and sing songs about. It is going to be a glorious thing for the people of God. In fact, we saw in Revelation 19:14, that those that are in the church now have already been raptured and taken to be with Him by this time, and now we are coming back with Him in clean linen and riding on white horses with Christ as He comes forth. In this section though, the emphasis is not on us, it is on Christ as He comes forth in victory over all those who have challenged Him. We are looking at the descriptions of Christ given in this passage.
We have already seen four descriptions, and in Revelation 19:15, we pick up the fifth description where it says, “From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations.” So, we see Christ is coming in war and victory. I believe the sword coming from His mouth is a metaphor for the idea that He is just going to speak. He doesn’t need weapons or need any kind of means beyond His own word. He will simply speak and those armies that have come out to oppose Him, including the antichrist and the false prophet will not stand a chance. They are going to be mowed down. As for the antichrist and the false prophet we have something else in mind for them yet, we will get to that a little later.
Secondly, it says as the sixth description, He will rule saying, “and He will rule them with a rod of iron.” I think we sometimes think of Christ, who is meek and lowly and gentle and kind, as being a pushover. He is not! The description of Him here is that He will rule with a rod of iron. The Kingdom Age, which will follow the coming of Christ which we will look at later, will not be a democracy. We are not going to get to vote on rules or laws or anything else. Christ is going to rule, and He is going to rule with a rod of iron. That means there is going to be a zero-tolerance policy with Him. Those in the Kingdom Age, that will follow, will not rebel against Him. They will not be allowed to have defiant sins against Him. He will deal with that forcefully, as we see in other Scripture, especially the Old Testament. That will not be tolerated. He will rule with iron. It is going to be His way or the highway as some people say. There is no other way . . .
