Description

We are looking at probably the most anticipated and talked about event in all of human history. That is the return of Jesus Christ to claim the earth and whole universe as His own as the absolute monarch. We know He is the monarch now and He is sovereignly in control, but for His own purposes, He has allowed sin to have its day. He has allowed Satan to be the God of this world at this point. That is all going to change here at the Second Coming of Christ. We are going to take our time going through Revelation 19 as we look at this event in Scripture. We find the return of Christ in Revelation 19:11-20:3 could be divided into two major parts. There is the king and His armies, and the king and His victories.

We are going to first look at the beginning of the king and His armies starting in Revelation 19:11 which says, “And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.” As we jump into this, we are going to find that the army itself that comes with Christ is really mentioned in passing only in Revelation 19:14. The emphasis and focus is on the General of that army – Jesus Christ Himself. As we look at that, we find there are four different names in this section given for Jesus Christ. Each of those names tell us something unique and special about Him. Revelation 19:11 calls Him, “Faithful and True.” Keep in mind He is coming as the absolute monarch of the universe, and He is coming as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He is going to be the ruler over all things. One of the difficulties that we have in human rulership is the fact that many of them are deceitful. Many of them are self-centered and out simply for themselves. However, Jesus Christ, the perfect ruler is, “Faithful and True,” and in righteousness He judges and wages war. He is going to wage war here. There has been discussion over the ages with just war theory. Is there such a thing as just war? In human language and history, that has been extremely rare, I think, but this is a just war. He is coming as the One who is righteous, faithful, and true and He is waging a just war.

Here is the second name for Him. Revelation 19:12 says, “His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself.” A secret name! . . .
