We pick up in Revelation 20 this time looking at the end of the Kingdom Age. We saw last time that the Kingdom Age ends with a great battle as Satan takes a multitude of people in rebellion against the Lord into a great battle against the Lord. They actually surround the city of Jerusalem, and apparently try to overthrow Christ Himself. They are quickly destroyed, and Satan himself is cast into the lake of fire according to Revelation 20:9-10. There is one more event that takes place before the eternal state begins. That is the Final Judgment, and this final judgment is upon the unbelievers of all ages.
We usually call this The Great White Throne Judgment. Based upon Revelation 20:11 where it says, “Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them.” That is why we get the name. We have this great judgment taking place and “Him that sits on the throne,” probably is Christ. We find in John 12:48, it says, “He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.” That Scripture says that all judgment is given to Christ, and so most likely, He is the judge at this time.
We find in Revelation 20:11 a couple of things that are of interest to us. It says that the “heaven and earth fled away,” this would indicate that apparently the heaven and earth as we know it today is now gone. It has been destroyed, it no longer exists, it has fled away so it isn’t present any longer. The second thing that we notice here as it says, “there is no place found for them.” This is going to mean that the judgment must take place in some kind of space unknown to us. Perhaps it is simply in space itself because it is not going to take place on earth or in heaven or in the New Jerusalem that we will look at next time, so apparently just in space in some format that we probably don’t understand.
Thinking about that, we find that the Great White Throne Judgment has to:
1. Take place at the end of the Millennial Kingdom.
2. It has to take place probably in space.
3. Christ most likely is the judge at this time.
4. The subjects are the unbelievers . . .
