Description

We are enjoying right now the study concerning the new Jerusalem, the place that you and I, if we know Christ as our Savior, will live forever. We are having some pictures here of what that looks like. Obviously, the details are the best the Lord can give to human beings who cannot comprehend the glories of heaven. What we have seen is that we are going to be living in a wonderful and beautiful and glorious place. That is what the Lord is describing for us. A place of security, worship, and the Lamb is at the very center of all things. It is just a wonderful, wonderful place.

We left off with Revelation 21:14, and we saw the walls and gates of the city. We have seen Israel involved, the angels involved, and the apostles of the Lamb involved. We do not know many things, but I want to take us today to two texts of Scripture that give us some insight to what is going on here.

The first is in Hebrews 11:8-10. This great chapter in the book of Hebrews is concerning those in the Old Testament that please God by living by faith. One of the key characters there is Abraham of course. It says this about Abraham and really fits with what we are talking about in the book of Revelation. Follow me as we read this, “By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise; for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.” Hebrews 11:10 speaks to where we are today. We know that Abraham was living in a foreign land. The Lord brought him out. As far as we can tell from Scripture, especially Acts 7, Abraham was not a follower of the Lord. He was not a worshiper of God. God called him from his paganism and from his land and brought him into what we call the Promised Land, and said, look if you will believe in Me and trust in Me and you will obey Me, then I will give you all of this land that your foot will trod upon. Abraham believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness the scriptures tell us. He went out throughout all this land and God kept His promise. So, Abraham obeyed God. God gave Him a promise of the land, but in Hebrews 11:10 it goes beyond that . . .
