I hope you have enjoyed our study through the book of Revelation. It has been a joy for me. I trust there has been much that you can understand and apply to your life. We come today to the very final words of the book of Revelation and the very final words of the scriptures.
We pick up in Revelation 22:17 with a final invitation, “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who hears say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.” Then He moves on to Revelation 22:18 and speaks of a curse, it says, “I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book.” So, He is talking about Revelation. “If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.” This is a very grave warning, isn’t it? He is talking about the book of Revelation in particular. He is saying that the Lord has given to us His revelation of exactly what He wants us to know, and He has given His final words of prophecy and much in teaching along the way. He gives us a powerful warning that if we add or take away from this inspired Word, that which God has given us here, then you are facing some very serious consequences. In Revelation 22:18, “God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book.” Recall the plagues here are severe. We have all sorts of the most horrible things imaginable, and He says anyone that would tamper with the Word of God, with the book of Revelation, they are going to face those plagues in their lives as well. In Revelation 18 he talks about taking away from this individual their part in the tree of life and the holy city which are written in Revelation. So, He talked to us about the holy city, the new Jerusalem, and the tree of life. He warns that you are going to lose your part in that if you tamper with the Word of God.
